Reported by: Tom McKee Email: tmckee@wcpo.com Reported by: Dave Marlo Last Update: 12/04 7:35 pm One of the hottest careers in the current job market continues to be physical therapy. "It's absolutely off the charts hot," says Karen Holtgrefe, Physical Therapy program director at the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Delhi Township. "We are absolutely in a shortage particularly in hospitals," says Holtgrefe. Mount Saint Joseph and the University of Cincinnati offer the two doctoral physical therapy programs in Greater Cincinnati. Each is an intense three years of coursework and clinical internships. Applicants must have a four-year college degree with a heavy concentration in science, at least a 3.0 grade point average and a competitive score on the GRE (Graduate Record Examination). Those who succeed need not worry about finding a job with excellent pay, according to Holtgrefe. "In the Cincinnati area the starting salary for a new gradate is in the neighborhood of $60,000 a year," she says. |
